Come make something with your own hands.
Fernwood is a small neighborhood pottery studio teaching wheel-throwing and hand-building to complete beginners. Patient teachers, small classes, and clay under your fingernails by the end of night one.

Small classes
Six wheels per session, so nobody waits around for help.
Everything included
Clay, tools, glazes, and two firings for every piece you make.
Beginners first
Most of our students had never touched clay before their first class.
Classes this season
All classes
First Wheel
Six Tuesday evenings, 6 to 8 pm
Learn to center, pull walls, and shape your first cups and bowls on the wheel.

Hand-Built Forms
Four Saturday mornings, 10 am to 12 pm
Pinch, coil, and slab-build bowls and cups by hand, no wheel needed.

Glaze and Surface
Three Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 pm
Learn how glazes work and test dipping, pouring, and brushing on your own pieces.
A studio that keeps things simple
The studio holds eight wheels, two long work tables, shelves of pieces drying under cloth, and one very well-loved kiln in the back room. There is a record player and a shelf of mugs, each one a student's first.
Classes are small on purpose. You will get real attention, real wheel time, and honest answers when a piece collapses. You will also get dirty. Aprons exist, but enthusiasm usually wins.
